2010 Membership Drive
January marked
the beginning of our 2010 Membership Drive. Current members are urged to renew your memberships prior to March 31, 2010.
For those of you new to our site, we welcome
you to become part of a growing and worthy organization. We extend a special membership invitation to those who have a family
member, friend, client, or co-worker with special needs. Membership in the Arc of Jefferson County provides you an additional
opportunity to show your support and love for individuals with intellectual and developmental disorders living in Jefferson
and surrounding counties.
However, membership is not limited to people that have a personal connection to someone with special needs. Membership is
open to anyone with a caring heart for our friends and neighbors in the local area.
We strongly encourage and welcome you to become a member of
the Arc of Jefferson County, knowing that your membership makes a difference in lives of children and adults with intellectual
and development disorders through the following activities and items we offer:
Camp Friendship. Last year
approximately 100 children enjoyed a week or two of camping activities between three different camps we hold through out the
summer months. Two different camps are held for children with special needs and then in August we hold a week long camp
for children with Autism.
Fishing Rodeo. This is
open to the public and provides opportunities for social interaction and recreation between the community and our families
involved.
Adult Recreation Program. Held each Saturday
of the month. Activities include movies, bowling, BINGO, holiday parties, garage sales and much more.
Parent Support Group. Parents can meet once a month to share challenges
or celebrate achievements. This year we have made it possible for the parents to bring their children with them each
meeting. We will have volunteers provide structured activities for the children while the parents meet.
Lending Library. We are excited to announce that we are launching a new
lending library this year. Our biggest news with this is that we will offer the entire DVD library collection of Signing
Times videos as well as all of their flash cards and board books to borrow. We are still looking for donations
of gently used books relating to anything related to Special Needs.
We
Provide Advocacy and Resources to our members. If we don't have the answer, we will find a way to find the
answers.
Seminars and Trainings. We plan on holding more
seminars and trainings this year. Everything from Understanding Waivers to Sign Language Trainings. We will post
dates as soon as we get them planned.
Just look at the faces to your left, and see how much F-U-N
is had here at the camp. If you are looking for a worthwhile non-profit organization to support, take another look at
the faces to your left and then download a membership application today!!
