Thank you for visiting our new Internet site. As a local chapter of a well known national organization, we want to give you the opportunity to stay in touch with our events and activities. We will strive to keep this web page updated and keep you, the parent, the self-advocate, the caregiver, the concerned citizen, up-to-date with The Arc of Jefferson County.
At present, our web site is still under construction. We are making an effort to present you with our entire spectrum of offers as soon as possible. At this point we can provide you with information regarding our monthly parent support group, our sign language workshops, and our lending library.
If you are not familiar with our organization and your first contact with us is online: We would be pleased to hear from you! Please let us know what your needs and questions are, we will be more than happy to help.
In brief, you should know the following about us: our local chapter of The Arc was established in 1966. Many of the founders of our fantastic group are still with us today and continue to dedicate their time and efforts to making us a success. We believe that all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) have strengths, abilities and value. We provide summer camps and recreational activities for children and adults with special needs for all of Jefferson County and the DuBois areas. We own and operate Camp Friendship which is an 8 acre camp offering a quiet retreat from everyday life. There are two buildings, one of which has a full kitchen and dining area and the other offers two classrooms we use for crafting and music. There is a beautiful fenced in pond, picnic area with pavillion, outdoor fireplace, hiking trails and a playground for the children.
