Collectively,
we, the families, need to be able to pool our information regarding
health, medical
and developmental issues as well as education and socialization
choices and share it not only with each other but with families
who have received new diagnoses of Down syndrome, Autism or any other
intellectual disability in our local community. We also need
to encourage, support and recruit for each others local advocacy and educational desegregation
efforts. For more information or directions to the camp, please feel
free to contact Stacy Hanzely at 814-591-6622 or email stacy@jcarc.org. During the winter months we
have chosen to hold off meeting due to the low participation last winter. PA weather is so unpredictable, but we may meet for coffee once a month while the kids are in school.. be sure to let us know if you would like to do coffee!
OUR EXCITING NEWS!!! Last year we asked what we could
do to get more parents to our support group and we listened to you. We
now offer a play group for the children while the parents meet onsite
and have our support group. We currently have a mom who is a recent college graduate majoring in Early Eduction with an interest in Special Education
and a Speech Therapist who volunteer their time to come and entertain
the children for two hours while the parents talk. Each month we do
something different... everything from having a movie night for the
kids, a pizza party, family picnics, craft nights. Its fun for all!!!
