Camp Friendship is a free summer day camp for any exceptional person residing in the area. Camp Friendship is aimed toward individuals with more involved disabilities than just learning disabilities. School aged children applying as campers must be part of a special education program in order to be eligible. Adults who were part of a special education program while in school are also welcome.
Participants will attend daily art, music, physical education, and nature study classes taught by certified teachers. In addition, organized group activities such as a camp birthday party, talent show, rocket blasting, Carnegie Science Center visit, Punxsy Carnival, fire trucks, horse-back riding, Fourth of July Parade, and swimming are just some of the many activities being planned in the afternoons.
A nutritious morning and afternoon snack, as well as a hot lunch will be provided each day. However, if your camper has a very specific diet, you may need to provide alternative foods. Camp Friendship is located near Reynoldsville, off Route 322. The camp dates are June 14th, 15th, 18th - 22th , June 27 (Carnival), and June 29th (Parade). Monday—Magician, Mike Gigliotti Tuesday— Camp Birthday Party Wednesday—Punxsutawney Carnival Thursday—Farmer’s Inn donated by Kim Lucas Friday—Annual Talent Show followed by Swimming
In order to make this year, like the past 45 years a success, we are in need of volunteers. Anyone interested in giving some of their time to help out is appreciated. We are specifically looking for some kitchen help and van drivers.
Also, any responsible students (11 years of age or older) looking to help out as counselors are greatly needed. Counselors have the responsibility of accompanying an assigned camper to ensure their enjoyment and safety while at camp.
Lastly, any school aged student enrolled in special education services with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 5 to 21, is invited to attend this year’s camp.
